Right fielder Jay Bruce cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Orlando
Hurricanes beat the Lansdale Red Beards 4 by a score of 5 to 3.
Orlando came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
with 2 runs using 4 hits. Raul Ibanez led off and keyed the rally when he
stroked a base-hit. Bruce stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run
shot (his 8th of the season). Orlando and Lansdale each finished the
afternoon with 11 hits.
The win was credited to Drew Smyly(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Smyly got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his
13th save. The loss was charged to Glen Perkins(1-1) in relief.
Orlando now has a record of a division leading 18-9. With this loss, Lansdale
has a 3-7 record of late, 13-14 overall.
