At Citizen's Bank Pk '13, the Orlando faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel. Clayton Kershaw(18-15) finally bested his Steel counterpart,
Justin Masterson(12-11), by the score of 2 to 1.
Orlando jumped on top of Steel in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring a
single run. Raul Ibanez laced a single. After an out was recorded,
Masterson came to the plate and fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to
cross-up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed
ball. Lonnie Chisenhall then drew a walk. Alcides Escobar stepped in and he
hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Orlando had a total of 7 hits for the
game.
Kershaw was helped out by Jonathan Papelbon who recorded his 52nd save.
Masterson was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 2 runs and 7 hits in 8
innings.
With this win, Orlando has a division leading 81-67 record. They have been
5-5 lately. With the loss, Steel has a record of 6-4 lately, 75-73 overall.
