Sandy Koufax took a no-hitter into the 8th inning and Brian Roberts homered
and had 2 RBI as the McKay Pinchers defeated the Stafford 213's 5 to 1 at
Petco Park '05.
Koufax(8-6) was simply too much for the Stafford batters. He surrendered only
2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Koufax whiffed an impressive total of 10
Stafford batters. The left-handed Koufax lost his chance for a no-hitter
when Rogers Hornsby doubled with nobody out in the 8th inning. McKay managed
9 hits in their victory.
Ed Summers(7-7) took the loss. When asked about his strikeout total for the
game, Koufax offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them
tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept
them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the
'W'.'
