Hank Greenberg smacked 2 homeruns and Dutch Leonard had a strong outing as the
Las Vegas Whales defeated the McKay Pinchers by a score of 4 to 1 at Polo
Grounds '41.
Las Vegas drew first blood, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
with 2 runs on 2 hits. Joe Dimaggio started the attack as he hit a
bases-empty home run (his 34th of the season). After an out was recorded,
Greenberg stepped in and he lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. That was all the
offense they were to need. Las Vegas ended up with 6 hits for the game while
McKay had 2.
The win went to Leonard(14-8) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Leonard got help
from Al McBean who was credited with his 12th save. Sandy Koufax(10-10)
suffered the loss. He served up 4 homeruns in his 8 innings.
