Jeff Bagwell slammed 2 homeruns at Fenway Park '71 as the Montreal Poutine won
in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Stafford 213's by the count of 13
to 12.
Montreal came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs using 2 hits. Pedro Guerrero kicked off the action when he drew a walk.
Rico Petrocelli stepped into the batter's box and he tripled plating a run.
After an out was recorded, Nap Lajoie stepped in and he slapped a one-base
hit resulting in an exciting win for Montreal and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Stafford scored in 5 different innings,
but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.
The winning pitcher was Bill Dawley(2-0) who allowed 2 runs in 2 innings. Dave
Smith(3-3) suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk in 1
inning.
Dawley and Bagwell were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As marcus wilby noted, 'A win like this one can do
wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
