Sandy Koufax whiffed 12 batters at Petco Park '05 as the McKay Pinchers beat
the BS Detroit Overlords in 11 innings by the count of 1 to 0.
No runners had crossed home plate after the regulation nine. McKay ended up
winning it in the 11th inning. Brian Roberts doubled. After an out was
recorded, Willie McGee stepped up to the plate and he lined a single giving
McKay the victory as 48,329 happy fans celebrated wildly. McKay finished
with just 6 hits in the victory.
Koufax(11-10) was credited with the shutout. Mel Harder(13-8) was the loser.
He pitched 10 and 1/3 innings giving up only 6 hits and 2 walks.
Simon31 was upset after the game. 'I don't like to complain but did you see
that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe they ought to start calling the
strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
