Mel Ott cracked 2 homeruns and had 8 RBI and Ed Summers completed the game
without help from the bullpen as the Republic Thunderbolts were badly beaten
by the Stafford 213's, 19 to 3.
Ott had a big day at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the fence in
the 3rd inning, doubled emptying the bases in the 4th inning, lined a
base-hit resulting in a run in the 7th inning and lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run (his 19th of the season) in the 8th inning. Stafford
lit up the scoreboard in the 7th inning when they had 5 runs on 5 hits and
the 8th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits. Stafford managed 19 hits in their
victory.
The win was credited to Summers(8-12) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
Luis Tiant(12-12) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 8 runs in 5 innings of
work.
The Stafford ballclub's record now stands at 61-52. With the loss Republic
now has a record of 57-56.
