Mike Piazza ripped 3 homeruns and Ed Walsh pitched a complete game at Dunn
Field '20 where the Las Vegas Whales beat the Lima Lumberjacks by the score
of 9 to 4.
Piazza was unconscious all day. The Lima fans hated to see him approaching
the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He delivered a solo
blast in the 4th inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 6th
inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 37th of the season) in the 8th inning.
Offensively, Las Vegas was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.
Walsh(15-10) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Slim Jones(5-12). He served up 5 homeruns in his 7 innings.
'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Piazza said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'
