Jim Rice launched 2 homeruns at Fenway Park '71 as the New York Knights beat
the Y Tu Mama Tambien by the count of 4 to 3.
New York erupted with the game winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs
using 3 hits. Rod Carew led off the inning for New York when he lined a
base-hit. Nap Lajoie stepped up next and he delivered a single. Adrian
Beltre got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Guy
Hecker then was wild with a pitch. Rice stepped into the box and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. One out later, Ted Simmons stepped in and
he delivered a single knocking home two runners. Y Tu Mama was retired
without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
The win was credited to Ewell Blackwell(3-1) who went 7 innings allowing 2
runs. Blackwell got help from Joe Nathan who was credited with his 8th save.
Hecker(0-4) was the loser.
With this win, New York has a division leading 15-7 record. They have been
6-4 lately. With the loss, the Y Tu Mama ballclub's record is 12-10.
