Third baseman Eddie Mathews blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Ed Reulbach
tossed a complete game at Fenway Park '71 as the Y Tu Mama Tambien beat the
Monterey Bay Saltier Anchovy by the count of 9 to 1.
It was a good day for Y Tu Mama thanks to Mathews. He laced a one-base hit in
the 2nd inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd inning
and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season)
in the 7th inning. Y Tu Mama banged out 11 hits on the afternoon.
Reulbach(1-0), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Juan
Marichal(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 7 runs in 4 innings.
'I felt great out there today,' Mathews said, 'Maybe I should make a regular
habit of getting to bed on time!'
