Jim Kaat tossed a complete game as the Small Ball Wonders topped the Y Tu Mama
Tambien by a score of 8 to 3 at Busch Stadium '78.
In the bottom of the 6th inning Small Ball scored 3 runs when they had 3 base
hits. The big moment was provided by Tony Fernandez, who thrilled the crowd
when he tripled plating two runs. Small Ball finished with just 6 hits in
the victory.
The win went to Kaat(8-6) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Ed Reulbach(9-3) was
the losing pitcher. He gave up 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work.
The win by Small Ball is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in
recent days. Their record now stands at 36-53 - only 2-8 in their last ten
games. Y Tu Mama has a record of 49-40 after the loss.
