30,718 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park '71 as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Y Tu Mama Tambien won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Y Tu Mama won the game
in the 11th inning. Heinie Sand lined a base-hit. Wally Gerber stepped into
the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Hugh Critz then laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Dom Dimaggio stepped in and he delivered a single
giving Y Tu Mama the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Y Tu
Mama totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.
Billy Wagner(6-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Pete Richert(2-4) was given the loss in relief.
The Y Tu Mama ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 70-51.
Brooklyn has a record of 68-53 after the loss.
