Center fielder Hack Wilson lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI at
Polo Grounds '41 as the Boyd's Justified won a thriller over the floundering
San Isidro Gas Boys in, 7 to 6.
Boyd's scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Alvin Dark
stroked a one-base hit. Hoyt Wilhelm stepped up to the plate and he laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Billy Grabarkewitz then lined a base-hit making
Boyd's the winners and sending the 38,143 fans home happy. Although they
lost, San Isidro did out-hit Boyd's 14 to 11.
The win went to Wilhelm(7-7) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Willie
Hernandez(4-5) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no
walks in 1/3 of an inning.
