Right fielder Babe Herman had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Penmar Park (NeL) as the
Monmouth Hammerheads, running on all cylinders, ripped the Mission Impossible
by a large 16 to 6 margin.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Herman. He hit a single in the 1st inning, slapped a one-base
hit in the 3rd inning, lofted a three-run bomb (his 2nd of the season) in the
5th inning and doubled bringing in a run in the 7th inning. Monmouth
provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning with 6 runs on 6 hits and the 5th
inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 6 hits. Monmouth had 20 hits for the
game and Mission had 13.
The victory went to Leroy Matlock(2-0) who went 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6
runs. Gene Packard earned the save, his 1st. Jack Coombs(0-1) was the losing
pitcher. Monmouth scored big getting 7 runs off him in 2 and 1/3 innings.
