Designated hitter Jimmie Foxx blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI and Dazzy Vance
reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Chapmanville Builders defeated the
Pittsburgh BS 4 by the score of 6 to 2 at Veterans Stadium '78.
Vance(2-3) had a strong outing. He allowed just 7 hits and no walks in 9
innings and surrendered 2 'long bombs' improving his ERA from 4.88 to 4.54.
Chapmanville had 12 hits for the afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Ron Guidry(3-4). He was knocked around by
Chapmanville, allowing 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. Vance was jubilant
in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out there. The fans gave me
a lot of support as did my teammates. We got the victory and I'll sure take
10 strikeouts anytime!'
