Mickey Mantle slammed 2 homeruns and scored 3 times at Mack Park (NeL) where
the Santiago Swashbucklers beat the Kenesaw Curse #4 by the score of 10 to
6.
The Kenesaw fans didn't appreciate the big day Mantle had. He smashed a
solo-shot out of the park in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Although they lost,
Kenesaw did out-hit Santiago 15 to 12.
The win went to Christy Mathewson(1-0) who allowed 6 runs in 7 innings.
Mathewson was helped out by John Smoltz who recorded his 1st save. Don
Sutton(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 4 gopher balls in 4 and 1/3
innings.
