In a dramatic ending the Asbury Park Artists staged a comeback and held on to win over the ice-cold The 100 Hottest Ballbusters by the count of 4 to 3.

Asbury Park won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 5 hits. After an out was recorded, Lou Gehrig initiated the scoring spurt when he doubled. Mike Piazza followed and he stroked a single. Eddie Mathews then lofted a three-run bomb (his 3rd of the season). Asbury Park had just 6 hits for the afternoon.

Jim Bunning(2-1) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Willie Hernandez gained credit for his 4th save. Eddie Cicotte(1-3) was the loser. He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 4 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

Cicotte was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
